GOD'S FORGETTING POWER

Victor Knowles - Friday, February 03, 2012

Recently I finished writing the second volume of my life story, VICTOR: Since 1945. Socrates said that the unexamined life is not worth living. As I examined my life I was often embarrassed by some of my thoughtless, selfish and immature actions. Some of them were too painful to write about, let alone think about. David said, "Do not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions; according to Your mercy remember me, for Your goodness' sake, O LORD" (Psalm 25:7). That's the way I feel too. One hymn says, "Lord, my sins they are many, like the sands of the sea." But we have this wonderful promise from the Lord in Jeremiah 31:34, "For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more." That's the amazing thing about God. He can forgive sin and He can forget sin. I have been forgiven and I am so glad for that. But those memories of my sins are hard to erase. Only in God's memory do my sins go unremembered. I thank God for His forgiving power ... and for His forgetting power. I remember my sins, even though they are forgiven. God does not remember my sins, because He has sponged them from my record.  "But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin" "1 John 1:7).
